Going Green With Your ISP
In response to a question that we recently received about getting away from conventional service providers for your broadband connection at home, we’ve put together a few things that may be worth considering in your selection criteria and a few options that are available when it comes to ISPs in the UK.
One thing to note is that the connection to your house will most likely be owned by BT and will be leased to whomever is providing your broadband service. Removing BT from the equation will reduce your options of providers; companies such as Virgin will introduce new wall units that bypass the BT telephone network.
With regards to Internet service providers (ISP) with greener credentials, why not have a look at the following:
- GreenISP
Ethical Junction members and offices powered by renewable energy. This company also provides green hosting at Green WebHost - GreenNet
Ethical Junction members, GreenNet are a community collective working towards social change. Web hosting and other complimentary services are available from their website.
We have had no personal experience with the companies listed above, but we hope that people that have had some exposure to them will comment below to state their experience.
This list will change as more related businesses appear, so please check back in the future.
Thanks and have a great day.
