How to Add a Page to Your Website

  1. Go to Content -> Article Manager -> Add New Article.
  2. Fill in the following fields:  Title, Alias (lower case letters and hyphens “-” only), Category, Status (set to “Published”), and fill in the article text area with your text.
  3. Click “Save” or “Save and Close”.
  4. To add your new page to your website menu, please continue onto the next section.

How to Add Your New Page to Your Website Menu

  1. Go to Menu -> Main Menu -> Add New Menu Item.
  2. For the Menu Item Type, click the select button on the right.
  3. Click the “Single Article” option.
  4. Fill in the following fields:  Title, Alias (lower case letters and hyphens “-” only), Category, Status (set to “Published”).  For the Parent Item, if you want the menu item to appear as a main menu item then there is nothing you need to change here.  If you want the menu item to be a drop down menu, then select the main menu item that you want the drop down menu to “drop down” from.
  5. On the right hand side of the page, there is an item called “Select Article”.  Push the Select/Change button and select your newly created article in order to add this to your menu. (If you have not created your new article yet, please go back to How to Add a Page to Your Website.
  6. Click “Save and Close”.
  7. Push CTRL+F5 in your website to see the new menu item.

How to Remove a Page From Your Website Menu

  1. Go to Menu -> Main Menu -> Add New Menu Item.
  2. Tick the box to the left of the menu item you wish to remove.
  3. Click the Unpublish button in the top right menu. Unpublish joomla menu item
  4. OR click the appropriate Green tick in the Status column for the item you wish to unpublish.
  5. Note: all menu items that live underneath a main menu item will also disappear (in the case of drop-down menus especially).
  6. If you wish to delete (rather than hide) a menu item, then tick the box to the left of the menu item you wish to delete, and click the Trash button in the top right menu. Delete joomla menu item
  7. Push CTRL+F5 in your website to see the new menu item.

How to Change the Order of Your Menu

You can reorder your menu using the below instructions:

  1. Go to Go to Menu -> Main Menu (or the particular menu which you wish to reorder).
  2. If your Ordering column looks like this, then click the word Ordering to unlock your menu and enable you to sort your menu items:Joomla 2.5 menu order locked
  3. If your Ordering column looks like this, then you are good to proceed:Joomla 2.5 menu order unlocked
  4. If you have a small change to make, just push the blue and white up/down arrows to move your menu items up/down the menu order.
  5. If you have large changes to make, you can change the numbers in the boxes to reflect your new order.  1 is first, 2 comes second, etc.  Please note: if you have drop down menus, these have internal sort orders, starting at 1 again.
  6. Click the “Save” icon at the top of the Ordering column to save your changes.
  7. Push CTRL+F5 in your website to see your changes.

To move a menu item from a drop-down level up into a higher level menu item:

  1. Click the title of the menu item you wish to move OR tick the relevant box to the left and click edit.
  2. Go to Parent Item in the main window, and select the appropriate menu item you would like this menu item to sit under.  Note: if you wish to make this a top level menu item then select Menu Item Root from the drop-down.
  3. Click “Save” or “Save and Close”.
  4. Push CTRL+F5 in your website to see the new menu item.

How to Edit a Module

Content on your website that is not contained within an article, is most likely a module.

You can edit your modules using the below instructions:

  1. Go to Extensions -> Module Manager. Module Manager
  2. Find the module you are looking for.  You can use the filter box in the top left corner to search for a particular keyword, or use any of the drop down boxes on the right hand side such as “Select Type” in order to narrow down the list of modules.
  3. Once you have located your module, click on it’s title to open it.
  4. Edit the module.  It is in a Customer HTML module, you can edit it in a similar way to how you would edit an article.
  5. Click “Save and Close”.
  6. Push CTRL+F5 in your website to see your changes.
